LUXE announces 16 Design Trends We’re Excited to See More of in 2016

Article by Elise Gabriele

16 Design Trends We’re Excited to See More of in 2016

1. Sculptural Furnishings
The owners found the elevator entry’s sculptural bronze chair at Art Miami. Sycamore-clad walls, fabricated by D & R Architectural Woodwork, act as an elegant backdrop for their art collection.

2. Textured Accent Walls
This contemporary Michigan home’s great room is accentuated with a fireplace hearth covered in white ceramic tile. “It’s almost shell-like, but it also has a modern vernacular,” says interior designer Stephanie Wohlner.

3. Semi-Precious Stone Accents
Designer Chandos Dodson Epley added matching semi-precious stone lamps to the living room of homeowners Marcie and Brian Peters.

4. Indoor-Outdoor Connections
Motorized door panels on one corner of the living room retract to turn the patio and living room into one big indoor-outdoor space. The Royal Botania table and brushed marine-grade stainless-steel chairs were selected to blend in with the palette.

5. Metallics and Mixed Metals
Sconces by Thomas O’Brien for Visual Comfort illuminate the powder room’s handmade mirror from Justmorocco Furniture Imports in Clearwater, Florida. Romo’s metallic-vinyl wallcovering pairs with a custom Waterworks washstand and a Kallista faucet.

6. Retro Furnishings
Jonathan Adler table lamps and chairs, covered with a tangerine Duralee textile, enliven a retro guest bedroom. A Lee Industries ottoman stands at the foot of the bed, which is accented with custom shams made with Kravet Couture fabric and Designers Guild trim.

7. Monochromatic Décor
For the parlor of a couple’s new Sedalia house, designers Miranda Cullen and Devon Tobin kept to a monochromatic palette when reupholstering a sofa and two armchairs with Fabricut linen. The ceiling fixture is by Currey & Company.

8. Pantone-Inspired Blue and Pink Accents
In the living room, Vittorio Rossi’s Murano glass heads from YM Antiques in New York flank Christine Pichette’s painting. Before the artworks is a periwinkle sofa from Saladino Furniture in Summer Hill fabric from Jeffrey Michaels.

9. Industrial Lighting
Industrial style galvanized pendants from RJ Imports meet classic Shaker style cabinetry in the kitchen. The walnut butcher block on the island, the soapstone counters and the subway tiles are all from Famosa Surface Studio.

10. Minimalism
Concrete floors flow through this minimalistic home that designer and homeowner Maria Gomez outfitted with classic modern furniture.

11. Spa-Like Bathrooms
Architect Martin Goldstein worked with the designer on reconfiguring the master bathroom. Custom vanities, designed by Hintgen and purchased through Minteriors, are topped with onyx by YK Stone Center and flank a steam room complete with a shower and tub.

12. Geometric Patterns
A pair of Madeline Stuart ottomans from De Sousa Hughes stands at the foot of an upholstered bed by Bernhardt in the master bedroom. The wool rug is by Stark, and the polished-nickel wall sconces with fabric shades are by The Urban Electric Co.

13. Colored Cabinetry
In the kitchen, a farmhouse sink by Handcrafted Metal—featuring a Jaclo faucet— complements the vibrant blue cabinetry and hardware from Chicago Brass. Quartzite countertops are from Stone Source.

14. Statement Staircases
The free floating-step staircase is complimented by paintings by Richard Serra and Frank Stella from Evelyn Aimis Fine Art that form a vertical gallery above the sideboard in this modern Miami Beach great room.

15. Globally Crafted Goods
The media room is saturated with color for a Moroccan feel. Interior designer Chandler Prewitt worked with La Puerta Originals to design a chaise made from antique-wood carvings from India and paired it with a George IV Bobbin turned-leg bergère.

16. Colored Ceiling
Pendants from The Urban Electric Co. are suspended from the ceiling, which is painted in the same Wescott Navy shade as the kitchen cabinets. Joan Miro’s Tracé Sur La Paroi III is a focal point in the dining room; the custom table features an iron base and wood top.
